Life Sciences Aided by Design
DALS, short for 'Design Aided Life Sciences', arises from cooperative work between the Lowtech Design Group, an interdisciplinary creation space at the UC School of Design led by Professor Alejandro Durán, and the UC Faculty of Biological Sciences through LABMICMAR, the UC Marine Microbiology Laboratory, led by Dr. Rodrigo De la Iglesia.
During the preparations for the 40th anniversary of the Estación Costera de Investigaciones Marinas ECIM, the Station's director, Dr. Sergio Navarrete, promoted the consolidation of a direct interaction between the disciplines of Design and Biological Sciences.
DALS is situated at the intersection of cutting-edge research in Biological Sciences and the design of devices needed for their development and transfer. DALS accompanies research questions, proposes technologies for their investigation, and from the findings, projects new synthetic solutions that acknowledge their impact and benefit to society.
Coastal Marine Research Station
DALS connects frontier research conducted at the Coastal Marine Research Station - ECIM, with various centers and laboratories associated with the Faculty of Biological Sciences and workspaces of the UC Faculty of Architecture, Design and Urban Studies.
